Years ago when my father in law was getting closer and closer to his last natural breath on earth battling cancer, I wrote a heart to heart letter to him in hope to comfort and encourage him. He read the letter and called me to come see him. This I did. When I got to him, Coach Doyle said to me, Listen to me Dennis (Deno) I have something I want to tell you. I read your letter son and it touched my heart. He said, I saw your heart in these words and I want to say this to you. He said, "son if you will ever learn to let your heart be your guide, you will be a blessing to people".
Friends, Jesus knew the heart of his disciples. He chose them just like He had chose David years before to be King over Israel because He saw and read the heart of David and really liked what he read and knew Davids heart was fit to be HIS SELECTED KING over Israel. But just like you and I, David did not always follow his heart but let other things guide his steps and in pleading with God about his sins one day, he cried, "Have mercy upon me O God, remember that in sin my mother did conceive me". So many times the heart of David meant to do the good, but the sinful flesh controlled his decision.
Friends, In Christ and thru Christ in us, we all have the beautiful heart of our Savior in our hearts. As it is written, That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith (Ephesians 3:17). And Christ heart is always the same yesterday, today, and forever. He never changes. His love never ends. His love never fails. All the yuck is us and the wish washy back and forth ways are us to NEVER THE LORD.
But even though we have this wonderful treasure of GODS UNCHANGING Perfect Love and Pure Holy Spirit and His heart in our heart, it is found in and surrounded by an earthen vessel of marred clay that was conceived in sin and full of bad ingredients. About these bad ingredients Paul wrote, In me, specifically speaking, that is in my flesh DWELLS NO GOOD THING (Romans 7:14-25). He said good is in me by Christ, yet evil from this cloak of flesh is ever present with me and is also warring with me in my mind in the valley of decisions. Meaning evil was also found as a part of his being (Matthew 7:11). Denying this truth can cause great confusion in in the church(Romans 7:14-25...Read slowly).
Jesus knows this wisdom and truth better than we, and understands this truth better than Paul. Jesus knows when the spirit is willing and he knows when the flesh is weak. He knows what is of the Spirit of the heart of Christ and what the fruits of the sinful flesh are.
How many times have we been in situations that we mean well in our hearts but the good we wanted to do we did not do, but the bad thing we should not have done WE DID? How many times have we, even as the children of God in Christ prayed and said, I wish I wouldn't have said that? I wish I would not have done that or acted like that? (ZILLIONS FOR SOME OF US). Matter of fact, most every time that we have confessed our sins unto the Lord we show that we did that.
Friends God knows and can discern what is of the heart, of the Spirit and what is not of our hearts. He can tell when we are walking in the Spirit or carousing around in the flesh.
Thru Christ in us as Spirit filled believers we have goodness in us. GOD AND HIS GOODNESS. God cannot be other wise. We have a Holy, Pure, Loving Spirit that never changes but is always the same yesterday, today, and forever. If we will learn to, like many of our loving elders do and have done before us, and like my father in law said to me, to let Christ Spirit, His love and goodness, and the beauty of Christ heart and mind in us be our days light and guide by which we make our choices and actions from, we will be His Blessing to others more and more. As it is written, When angry don't sin by your anger. Walk in the Spirit, let Christ and His heart and love be your guide.
Love your enemies Jesus said to us. Do good to those who do you wrong. Bless those that persecute you and say evil things about you. Bless and curse not. The heart of Christ on the Cross said of those that had ripped him to shreds and crucified him, He said, Father, forgive them for they are blind. That is the heart of Christ. Even on the Cross in all that agony Jesus was WALKING IN THE SPIRIT avenging not his flesh. He crucified his crucified flesh so that it avenged not, so that he walked in Gods loved towards his crucifiers. Scroll Down.
